Porsche increases new orders in Germany by
14.5 percent
New generations of models show strong development.
Successful launch of the Cayenne Diesel.
Porsche AG, Stuttgart, feels well equipped in the first quarter of the 2009 calendar year in its home market of Germany. Despite the financial market crisis and general buyer reticence, the new orders by the sports car manufacturer are 14.5 percent higher than the prior year figure, with 3,497 vehicles.
In March alone, Porsche Germany posted new orders for some 1,400 vehicles and was thus close to the best figure for March to date, the 1,500 new orders in March 2006. This represented an increase in new orders by 57 percent over the previous month of February.
Bernhard Maier, General Manager of Porsche Deutschland GmbH: ‘The high number of new orders in the first quarter of 2009 show that our new generations of the 911 series and the Boxster and Cayman with more economical, yet higher-performance engines, with direct fuel injection (DFI) and Porsche double clutch gearbox (PDK), are well received by our customers. The successful introduction of the Cayenne Diesel is also currently increasing our orders received substantially.’
The sports car manufacturer also increased the number of new cars registered: in total, 1,472 new Porsche cars were registered in Germany in March. This corresponds with an increase of 69 percent over February 2009 and of 2.9 per cent over March of the previous year.
Maier: ‘These figures motivate us to continue our product offensive. We will be launching the new Porsche 911 GT3 on the road in May. The preparations for the market introduction of our four-seater Gran Turismo Panamera in September are also in full swing', says the head of Porsche Germany. With the fourth series, Porsche is aiming to stimulate the sales figures further in the upcoming financial year, which begins on August 1.
