The test drive of your life: the new 911 models.
On Wednesday 10 December 2008 Porsche Centre Brisbane hosted ‘The test drive of your life’ track day, held at Queensland Raceway.
The day was held as part of a national program, introducing the new 911 range of vehicles. On arrival participants enjoyed a pep-talk before taking to both the track and the slalom sections with, what can only be described as, unbridled enthusiasm.
An extensive selection of new 911s was on hand to test drive including Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S and Carrera 4S vehicles; allowing guests to experience a range of engine variants and transmissions, across both coupe and cabriolet models.
The new model 911s also showcased for the first time, technical advancements including direct fuel injection (DFI) and the revolutionary all-new seven speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double clutch transmission.
Looking after invited guests on the day were the Porsche Centre Brisbane team and a selection of highly experienced Porsche driving instructors including Steve Pizzati, co-host of Top Gear Australia. Steve’s extensive Porsche experience, sense of humour and all-round entertaining personality kept guests laughing throughout the day.
James Simpson, Sales Manager - Porsche Centre Brisbane explains “The test drive of your life program has been a fantastic addition to our schedule of Porsche track days”, going on to point out: “never before have Porsche owners had the opportunity to experience the arrival of a new 911 model series in such a way – and what a way to experience Porsche engines with DFI and our incredible PDK transmission for the first time.”
Also on track to take guests on ‘hot lap’ drives was Luke Youlden, piloting a 911 Carerra model equipped with the all-new seven speed PDK transmission. Luke’s racecar driving experience, in Australian categories including stints in both Carrera Cup and V8 SuperCars, ensured guests were shown the exceptional capabilities of the new 911 models in the hands of a professional racecar driver.
A fantastic day was enjoyed by all. The test drive of my life indeed.
