Boxster RS 60 Spyder in Limited Edition

Australia. Porsche is paying tribute to one its racing icons with the introduction of a limited edition Boxster RS 60 Spyder.

Just 1,960 of these special models will be built, with a scarce dozen or so units available for Australian customers.

The Boxster RS 60 Spyder celebrates the racing achievements of the open-top Type 718 RS 60 Spyder which took on and defeated bigger-engined and more-fancied competitors in the 60s. Its first win, in 1960, was one of its best – the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring in one of the races for the Manufacturers’ World Championship.

Now the new Boxster RS 60 Spyder takes up the momentum and purism of that so successful mid-engine two-seater racing car.

The front end of this special model features the Porsche SportDesign Package to distinguish it from the Boxster S. A modified exhaust system made up of a sports exhaust combined with a dual tailpipe increases engine output from 217 to 223 kW.

Wheel spacers move the Porsche SportDesign 19-inch wheels further outboard for a more impressive road stance and improved grip. Also featured as standard is Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) to ensure both sporting and comfortable driving at all times.

Paintwork in GT silver metallic is further accentuated by its contrast to the natural leather interior in Carrera red, with the soft top roof also finished in red.

The features and equipment of this limited edition model are likewise special and provide a direct link to the racing icon.

Stainless steel door sills proudly bear the “RS 60 Spyder” designation and a silver plate on the glove box lid identifies the Special Edition model. Extra sporting touches include a new gearshift lever and unique design touches for the sports seats, centre door linings, steering wheel and handbrake. The regular cover for the instrument binnacle has been dropped, with the three instrument cluster turrets now exposed in
true racing style with their fronts finished in GT silver metallic.

Additionally, the windscreen frame is finished in black, rear light clusters and centre console finished in red, and seat backrests, roll bars and seat belts all finished in silver.

The strictly limited number of Boxster RS 60 Spyders allocated to Australia will be available from early in the second quarter of 2008, priced from $157,800.
